Tomemos un café

The greatest pastime of my country seems to be drinking coffee with friends. You can order "cafe" and you'll get a small black espresso, or "cortado" and you'll get the espresso with a drop of steamed milk (mini cappuccino) or a "lagrima" and you'll get steamed milk and a splash of espresso (closer to a mini latte).

If you want a larger cup you have to request a "doble". And that is still half of what you get in a grande Starbucks cup!

El pasatiempo de mi país parece ser el tomar café con los amigos. Si piden un "café" les darán un café exprés negro pequeño, o si piden un "cortado" les darán un café exprés con un poquito de leche batida (como un mini capuchino) o si piden una "lágrima" les darán leche batida con un chorrito de café exprés (parecido a un mini latte de Starbucks).

Si quieren una taza más grande tienen que pedir un "café doble". Y esto sigue siendo la mitad de una taza tamaño "grande" de Starbucks!

Sobrinito en camino...

Voy a set tía por primera vez! Mi hermanito y su esposa, Alex, esperan su primer hijo para Septiembre 2010. Me llena de alegría pensar en nuestra familia y sus nuevas generaciones.

El único consejo que me atrevería a dar a mi hermano y cuñada es que tengan mucho cuidado con lo que hacen y dicen todos los días. Los niños son esponjas que modelan su conducta, pensamientos y sentimientos con los ejemplos que ven a diario. Esa la lección más importante que me ha enseñado mi hija (hasta ahora).

I'm going to be an auntie for the first time! My little brother and his wife, Alex, are expecting their first baby boy in September 2010. It gives me great joy to think about our family and the new generations. The only piece of advice that I would dare give my brother and sister in law is that they should be extremely careful with what they say and do each day. Children are like sponges and they model their behavior, thoughts and feelings with the examples they are exposed to daily. That's the most important lesson my daughter has taught me (yet).

Las clases de inglés gratis de nivel básico en la iglesia de St Mary's que comenzaron hace mes y medio continúan hasta el mes de junio. Las clases son todos los miércoles desde las 7 hasta las 8.30pm.

Si quieren inscribirse por favor acérquense a la iglesia el miércoles siguiente en el horario en que se dicta la clase. Pueden inscribirse y quedarse a la clase en el mismo día.

Gentle, Patient and Persistent

I'm reading and re reading Buddhism for Mothers by Sarah Napthali and this mantra that the writer quotes from a master jumped at me. If I need to learn and practise anything as a mother, gentleness, patience and persistence say it all. And, by the way, the mantra seems to apply to every role I fulfill: mother, wife, friend, student, teacher, etc...

Estoy leyendo Buddhism for Mothers (Budismo para madres) de Sarah Napthali y el mantra que la escritora cita de uno de sus maestros me quedó grabado. Si hay algo que necesito aprender y practicar como madre es el ser suave, paciente y perseverante. De hecho, este mantra se aplica a cada uno de mis roles como: madre, esposa, amiga, alumna, profesora, etc...
