A Pocket Naturalist Guide

Our family bought the Connecticut Birds and New England Trees and Wildflowers Pocket Guides this past spring with the intention of teaching the little one about her surroundings. Since our baby is 9 months old, the adults seem get the educational part of it while the baby is content with being outside "exploring" with us.
We live in Stamford, close to Downtown, yet we have been able to see quite a few of the birds mentioned in the guide: Sparrows, Indigo Bunting, Northern Cardinal and Robins (*). At least we think we've identified those so far. The guides bring colorful pictures of the birds and their measurements. I highly recommend this inexpensive (Guide is $5.95) activity to share with kids of all ages.

(*) This is a link to Wikipedia for the bird and if you scroll down you can listen to a recording of the bird's song. My girl loved it!
